Policy Committee

There are numerous federal, state, and local laws and policies that impact the health and resilience of our Mississippi River and the River communities that depend on it. At MRN, our overall policy goals are to advance federal and state policies that:

  • promote just, equitable, and resilient communities,
  • reduce impacts of agricultural and urban runoff pollution, and
  • protect and restore ecosystem form and function.

MRN’s Policy Committee is a standing committee that is guided by the above policy goals and sets specific policy priorities on an annual basis for the Network. MRN’s Policy Committee shares, creates, and implements policy advocacy strategies, and we are actively working through ways to center equity and justice in our priority-setting processes.

Here are a few ways you may see MRN’s Policy Committee in action:

  • Coordinating and participating in DC “fly-ins” to educate and engage Congressional decision makers
  • Sharing and amplifying action alerts for River Citizens on policy priorities
  • Hosting webinars and presentations to educate River Citizens about River policy, and
  • Bridging the gap between national and state-based organizations working on River issues.
