Steering Committee
Mississippi River Network (MRN) member organizations are encouraged to take leadership roles in guiding the overall direction of the Network One of the leadership roles Members can take is to be on the Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee is a standing committee and acts similar to a board for MRN. The committee serves as the unifying driver of the collective efforts of the Mississippi River Network: Headwaters to Gulf. They are tasked with guiding the work of the Network, including crafting the Network’s strategic plan. In all of their efforts, the committee ensures that the diverse views of Network members are fully respected and considered. The committee also works to harmonize regional and national communications efforts. Members commit to working in a transparent, respectful manner, with its imperative being the achievement of the end goals of a healthy Mississippi River and not the interests of any single organization or person. The committee seeks to be representative of the 10-state mainstem geography of its members and diverse in representation of organizational focus and size. dispersed and in organizational type and size, so that it can be representative of the Network.
The Steering Committee in action looks like:
- Conducting an evaluation of the impact for member organizations being a part of the Network
- Planning and design for the yearly Annual Meeting for members
- Approval of foundational plans such as our Equity Approach and Theory of Change
- Bi-annual strategic planning retreats
