Save vital Mississippi river programs before they get left behind

Vital programs that protect and restore the Mississippi River have been left out of next year's federal budget — and we risk losing them unless Congress acts. These bipartisan efforts are key to keeping the River resilient and thriving: they help protect communities from worsening floods and droughts, support wildlife and ecosystems, and drive local economies.

One urgent priority is the Lower Mississippi River Comprehensive Management Study, a major effort already underway to find real, lasting solutions for flood risk, navigation safety, and ecosystem health. Stopping the study now would waste years of work and delay the action communities urgently need.

We need all hands on deck. Whether you live near the River or anywhere in the country, your voice matters. It takes just one minute to email your representatives — and for greater impact, personalize your message by sharing why the Mississippi River matters to you. Save the Mississippi River's Largest Restoration and Science Monitoring Program (UMRR)

The Mississippi River is the lifeblood of our nation, connecting communities, powering local economies, and supporting a rich web of ecosystems and wildlife. For nearly 40 years, the Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program (UMRR) has restored more than 121,000 acres of critical habitat and led groundbreaking science on caring for big rivers. Now, this successful, bipartisan program is at risk. Funding is on the chopping block, threatening jobs, wildlife, and clean water. Even if you don't live in the Upper River region, these proposed cuts will have downstream impacts and ripple effects nationwide. With budget decisions expected Monday, April 14th, now is the time to act.
